Research

In my research I employ geochemical and experimental tools to investigate magmatic conditions and processes at arc volcanoes. Further, I use field and GIS mapping methods to study silicic lava flow emplacement dynamics. These research topics have been explored in the context of the Cascades Volcanic Arc and Valles Caldera, NM.

Magma Storage at Glacier Peak Volcano

I employ geochemical and experimental techniques to better understand petrogenesis and conditions of pre-eruptive magma storage at Glacier Peak Volcano, WA.

Silicic Lava Flow Secondary Explosions

I study secondary explosion pits on the surface of the Banco Bonito Rhyolite Lava Flow in Valles Caldera, NM. I use field and GIS mapping to better understand the mechanism that formed these features and their associated hazards.

Eruption Initiation Mechanisms

Crystal zonation offers a valuable window to the pre-eruptive magmatic processes, as crystal zones reflect abrupt changes in temperature, pressure, and composition often associated with eruption initiation mechanisms. I automate the identification and counting of crystal zones in BSE images to streamline the analysis of volcanic crystals.
